Sermon Recap
Pastor Justin and Chrisy Kendrick revealed how Psalm 23 offers a transformative path to freedom through surrender to our Good Shepherd. They unpacked five vital habits for maintaining a clean heart: adjusting our position as sheep following the Shepherd, embracing our God-given limits, reimagining our valleys knowing that He is present, communing with God through conflict, and anticipating good because of His covenant love. Whether struggling with past hurts or present trials, this message illustrated how true freedom comes not through independence, but through dependence on our faithful Shepherd.
Ice Breaker Option
You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life. What do you choose?
HEAD Read Psalm 23
• How do David’s opening words set the stage for the rest of the Psalm? How does this help us understand the reality of who we are and who He is?
• List and reflect on what we receive when God is our Shepherd.
• In verse 4 David shifts from speaking of God as “He” to “You”. What do we learn from this change in tense?
HEART
• Reflecting on the five habits of the heart, in what way does Psalm 23 resonate with you?
• What past experiences or words are still 'sticking to you' today, and how might they be affecting your love for God, current relationships or outlook on life?
• How has intimacy with God changed your perspective in difficult times? How does this change the difficult moment you are in right now?
HANDS
• What practical steps could you take this week to adjust your position and truly see God as “My Shepherd”?
• In what areas of your life might God be trying to 'make you lie down,' and why do you think you might be resisting those limits?
• “We celebrate the gospel, but we don't internalize the gospel for ourselves.” As you have been meditating on your identity in Christ, how has this impacted your intimacy with God? How will you continue this journey?
PRAYER
• Psalm 23 is a prayer of confession, in which David confesses who God is. Begin with a time of gratitude, confessing who God is to you personally.
• Pray for guidance to truly adjust your position so that you can recognize God's leadership in your life.
• Ask God to help you embrace your limits and find rest in His provision.
• Thank God for His steadfast presence even in the dark valleys of life.
Going Deeper:
Pastor Justin challenged us to spend 30 days, first thing in the morning, meditating on scriptures that remind us of who we are in Christ. Who I Am in Christ
• How have you seen the Holy Spirit changing your perspective as you’ve meditated on these truths?
• Journal a prayer of gratitude in response.
