In Greater New Haven, more than two-thirds of students are not reading at grade level. We believe that God has called us to mentor and raise up the next generation in our city.

Homelessness

1 in 4 residents in New Haven live at or below the poverty line. We want to be a part of the city’s efforts towards affordable housing and holistic efforts to create pathways and opportunities to build self-reliant lives for all residents.  

Initiatives:

      ·Partnering with transitional housing shelters in the city

      ·Using the assets and skills of our church members to mentor and provide services at the shelters

Food Insecurity

The New Haven food insecurity rate (22%) is twice the national average. We want to be a part of the solution by mobilizing people to serve and support programs supplying food to those who need it most. 

Initiatives: 

      ·Supporting food rescue initiatives through Haven’s Harvest

      ·Serving meals to the homeless through Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen

      ·Helping schools meet the gaps in food service for students

Community Partners

Christian Community Action

Christian Community Action supports families in New Haven through short term assistance with basic needs, such as food, housing, fuel, and information to increase stability and self-sufficiency in their lives.

Bridges of Hope is a collaborative of New Haven area churches whose missions is to mobilize ministry and to transform the city of New Haven for the glory of God and the common good of its people.

Columbus House aims to serve people experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk by providing life-saving outreach, shelter and housing and by fostering their personal growth and independence.

Loaves and Fishes shares the love of God by providing food, clothing, and community to neighbors in need through a safe and welcoming space.

New Reach

New Reach inspires independence for all people affected by homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing and support services such as affordable housing, eviction prevention programs, and crisis services.

Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen

Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen serves people experiencing homelessness or living in poverty by providing food assistance and services that promote health, community, and equity, such as daily meal services, a downtown food pantry, and a resource center.

IRIS

IRIS provides targeted support for asylum seekers, asylees and other immigrant families who seek assistance stabilizing their family situations through basic needs assistance (shelter, furniture, toiletries), case management, health and wellness support, employee assistance, English instruction and so much more.

Clinton Avenue School

Clinton Avenue School is committed to the social-emotional, physical, and academic well-being of all students in the Fair Haven area. They hope that students will build academic awareness and take responsibility for their learning through high quality instruction, authentic learning, and a strong biliteracy model.

Chi Alpha is a community of believers at Yale University who believe that life is best lived grounded in the roots of real devotion, real community, and real responsibility. They connect with believers and welcome non-believers through weekly gatherings, core groups, and social events on Yale’s campus.
